A large Alligator Snapping Turtle (AST) featured on the Dirty Jobs show on the Discovery Channel.

This Alligator Snapping Turtle is guesstimated to be 150 years old based on other similar sized ASTs found with Civil War era musket balls in them.

Alligator Snapping Turtles are the largest freshwater turtle native to North America. They are mean and prehistoric looking, making them all the more appealing to their owners (and turtle fanatics that find them!). These turtles get large, typically over 24″ SCL, but they can get to 32″. They eat fish, amphibians, other reptiles such as snakes – even other turtles. They are best kept by themselves in captive habitats in either outdoor ponds or large stock tanks (over 300 gallons).
