year of the turtle

With 40% of all turtle species worldwide marked as endangered species, several turtle conservation groups have declared 2011 as the Year of the Turtle. The goal is to raise awareness about turtles and address the issues to ensure the survival of the various turtle species.

Some of the groups behind the year of the turtle are the Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation, the Turtle Survival Alliance, and the US Fish and Wildlife Service as well as a host of others.
