Filed under alligator snapping turtles, NYTTS, turtles, videos

Here is a video of an alligator snapping turtle that was part of the 2010 annual show of the New York Turtle & Tortoise Society (NYTTS).

This large pet turtle was definitely one of the more popular turtles in the show. Alligator snapping turtles typically reach a straight carapace length (SCL) of 26″ and can reach weights as heavy as 250 lbs!! They are considered mature when they reach SCL lengths of over 12 inches. They are believed to live between 20 to 70 years in captivity and able to live up to 150 years in the wild.
